What are your thoughts on horror movies and their impact on society? To quote one of my favorite movie lines, "Movies don't create psychos, movies just make psychos more creative" (Scream).
I believe horror movies are actually a very vital part of society. They give us a sense of vengeance in an indirect way. Through horror movies we can cheer when the bad guy gets revenge, watch the bitch get whats coming to her, envy the underdog when he overcomes evil, and a myriad of other emotions too dark to otherwise express. Let's face it, we all have dark thoughts from time to time. Wouldn't you love to ram your car into that crazy driver who just cut you off? Maybe get that person fired, the one who makes every day at work unbearable? What about that happy sales clerk who is so perfect and always smiling? You know the one. See, fantasy, whether dark and evil or light and romantic, is essential to our mental health. It is through movies that we can channel our inner demons in a healthy way. We can work through fear, frustration and pain by watching others live out what we can not.
